I heard that DOs aren't real doctors is this true?
This is pretty much correct. DOs are real physcians and I think the maker of this thread is a troll. Those cooky trolls, they just never stop. : 😱Bono said:D.O.s are real doctors. However the curriculum of a D.O. is different from the curriculum of an MD. One main difference (there may be others...i dont know) between the two types of physicians is that D.O.s have been specially trained to perform osteopthic manipulations on patients. They view the patient as a 'total person" and focus on preventative care. They view the whole body rather than treat specific symptoms or illness. D.O.s use Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) in their practice. This involves the use of their hands to diagnose injury and illness and to encourage your body's natural ability to heal. If i am not mistaken the majority of D.O.s go into family practice but some do get into residencies like surgery, radiology, etc, and train just like an MD. The only thing i am not sure of is whether or not a D.O. is as respected as an M.D. (I am not saying that D.O.s are not to be respected...they bust there ass for four years too!!) Someone that has actually worked in this environment will be able to tell you that.
America has 47,000 D.O.s, which account for only 5 percent of the country?s physicians and they handle approximately 10 percent of all primary care visits. D.O.s also have a strong history of serving rural and underserved areas. I learned all this stuff when i went for an interview at TCOM in Fort Worth, Texas.

A troll is someone who posts obnoxious questions just to encourage arguments or flaming. Posting some like DOs are not real doctors would piss alot of DOs off and cause flaming. That is why people think you're a troll.rtmcad2319 said:Ok wts a troll? and:

Hey the info out there is not so accurate
Odarolic: wt do you mean?

As for what Odarolic meant, DOs say they treat the whole person and not just the symptons. In other words insinuating that MDs don't treat the whole person. Odarolic was attempting to be funny by playing off this idea.

This link has the 20 osteopathic colleges.

The neat thing it's easier to get into a DO school vs an MD school. The average gpa is a 3.3 and MCAT is a 25.4 or something like that. DOs are found in all specialties. In fact some of the doctors you see at a hospital may be a DO and you wouldn't even know it unless you looked at their nametag. It's the best kept secret for 100 years. 😀

Well the LCME accredits MD schools and the AOA (American Osteopathic Association) accredits DO schools. The reason is simple. Not too many premeds knew about it such as yourself, and once they do, they think it's a fake doctor such as your research professor probably thought, or want the MD behind their name. But, if you just want to practice medicine and don't care about having MD after your name, then DO is a good call.rtmcad2319 said:Thanx, thats nice that its easier to get into. I wonder why that is?
It seems that both DO and MD have the same accreditation.
I wasnt talking about yourtmcad2319 said:Ok you and your flaming trolls need to calm down. I just heard about this DO thing today.

You can find out more about DOs by shadowing one but to be honest, the DO will act just like an MD. There really isn't a difference and most DOs don't even do manipulation even though they could.

As I understand it, both schools take the same classes together. I believe though that the allopathic school is moving soon. Also, last year the DO school was ranked 4th in primary care and the allopathic school wasn't in the top 50 of primary care.rtmcad2319 said:Maybe MSU puts up a wall, like the Berlin wall, between the two schools?
I have got to apply there and see this!
