I am depressed with my MCAT score (Aug 05 - First one).
Honestly what are my chances?
I am 35 yrs old, non US native with a Green card and will became a US citizen early next year.

MCAT: 27N
V7, P10, B10
US:
GAP:4.0(85 credit hrs: 65 –Community College; 20 –University:Upper level Bio)
Non-US:
Undergrad: Chemical Engineering
Masters: Computer Science
Both with a GPA – 4.0

Work: Have been working as a software consultant for the last 10yrs.

Tons of voluntary experience, medical mission trips, and shadowing.

Applied as a TX resident to all Texas schools in August.

I am disappointed with my MCAT score because I never scored less than 30 on my practice test and always scored 13+ on PS and 11+ on BS.

Thank you all in advance.

Don't withdraw your application. I doubt your MCAT score will be your biggest hurdle in the process.

EDIT: Sorry, the tone of my post is needlessly negative. 🙂 Your application looks pretty good to me, and I think you should continue applying this cycle.

I think that you truly have a shot considering your lowest score was in VR and you are not a native this speaks highly of you! Good luck!

Your scores look decent. However, I have heard that it is more difficult for international students to get into US schools. I read that you have your Green Card, but I don't know how that counts as pertains to your residency status.

I am in the same boat. Obtained my Green Card through employment based immigration sponsorship. My understanding is Green Card holders are considered exactly the same when it comes to resident status. My MCAT score is not well either (VR7, BS8, PS11, Q). I hope ad comms take into account that the particular type of reading in MCAT is hard on non-natives. I never feel challenged when it comes to technical readings, but it seems the humanistic topics are harder(art/art history/music/lit...). I'd rather they know it instead of my stressing it since once you start to do this, you never know how people take it, some may just think you are trying to find excuses.

I also have a more particular question, does this at least substantially lower my chances for public schools, although I already picked the public schools that take a substantial portion from non-residents?

If any one that knows any schools are crystal clear on the line about MCAT, please contribute here, that will help me spend my time on schools with more potential return. I think Columbia is one as they said it nearly crystal clear in their secondary (extended to all applicants) that don't bother unless you have at least 10 in EACH. I wonder as their MCAT ranges are still wide, what type of applicants get in with low end of MCAT? Alumni's children, people from disadvantaged background, people with extraordinay life experices...?

Your chances if you do not apply are 0.00000000.

🙂

It looks like you have a good shot once you apply. Your green card should satisfy the residency requirement (i.e. US Citizen or Permanent Resident). Your GPA is great, your MCAT, from what I've seen in other posts is on the lower end of competitive.

Your best shot is the advice given to me to contact the schools you are interested in and meet with them. Give them all of your info and ask them if you have a shot. They'll tell you honestly, and probably won't try to lead you on.

Your only discrepency is the 7 on your verbal, but if you write a great essay, then you can make up for it.. just make sure YOU write it, because with the 7 and the N you will probably be asked a lot of questions to make sure you did.

Good luck to you!

Just when I though it was all over, I got interview calls today to TCOM and UTMB.
So people with border MCATs like mine, your turn will be up pretty soon.

I knew someone years ago with almost exactly your stats who got into TCOM. Hope things work out for you.
