An ability to deal with a decade of training so you can get a job where you will work 80+ hours a week and get little to no recognition for it.

What if I want to go into psych?

for a surgeon: sadism and a perfect intellectual detachment from the human condition.
for a PCP: masochism and a human disregard for distancing intellectualism.
for a lifestyle specialist: a slacker's heart inside a gunner's body.

Take this with a grain of salt since I haven't started medical school and am only going off of my opinion based on several physician memoirs...
I actually think an incredibly important trait for a physician to have is intrinsic motivation.
I've read the countless negative factors that make physician's jobs difficult, stressful, and draining. Being able to have an instrinic sense of motivation that can get you past all the negatives has got to be a huge deal. And I'm not talking about just a little instrinsic motivation.. I'm talking about the type that can get you through weeks from hell that would make the average person implode.

A physician should love their craft. Good and bad parts. You don't go through all of that training to get up and say you hate your job because of x, y, and z. There are ups and downs in every profession.

That's some bull****. Go see a parent-inflicted "nonaccidental trauma" that dies and report back with your love for the experience. There are all kinds of things that straight up suck in medicine, and what those things are / the impact they have vary from person to person. I think it's much more about being able to tolerate the bad without having it weigh you down and appreciate the good

Grit and decent people skills. A desire to help people is great but something that 99% of the population will say they have.

Of course a doctor would not love to see a patient die. There will be good and bad parts of being a doctor. You missed my point obviously.
