I've heard that 1st year grades don't count for much in the eyes of residency directors. Under what circumstances might they count? Assuming they do, what kind of grades are considered competetive for residencies?

The reason I ask is because for a majority of my classes this first semester, I'm out of the runnings for an Honors. I'm looking at getting mostly High Passes. Oh yea.. and I'm not quite sure what specailty I'm interested in.

This is the grading system -
>90 Honors
80-90 High Pass
70-80 Pass
65-70 Low Pass/Fail depending on the class
<65 Fail
