I was placed in the middle tier of the Hopkins waitlist last year, chose to stay on it, and wasn't accepted. Another applicant I knew in the same position fared no better, so from my limited experience I'd say the odds aren't good. However, I'm not at all sure that they don't ever get that far down the waitlist.
