hey there...lol...my teeth are horrible...i have a great GPA, and am getting braces put on this beggining in october. Does anyone know any dentists with horrible teeth and can braces really work wonders...? I have what they call a crossbite, with mild crowding, and supposedly the braces are supposed to aid in helping this...heh...also, my canines look like a vampires out of some movie. Well just want to know people's take on this...thanks!

Heh, quite a few of my classmates have crooked teeth... Crossbites, Angle class IIs, class IIIs, overcrowding, displaced teeth, impacted permanent teeth due to retained baby teeth, you name it. And most of them are currently being treated to correct those conditions.

The good thing about dental school? As a dental student, you can get all that fixed at your dental school, usually for free, sometimes for a very reduced fee.

Here at my school, students do have to pay for orthodontics, but at a much reduced fee (couple hundred dollars as opposed to the regular fee of a couple thousand). Simpler procedures like fillings, cleanings, etc. are free. Procedures that involve laboratory work such as PFM crowns and veneers require the student to pay just the lab fee.

Mileage varies from school to school, of course..

I know a guy who has brown, and crooked teeth, and has never been to a dentist in his life. He actually once told me "Man, dentists dont do anything. I've never been to a dentist in my life!". One year later he applied to dentistry and got in. What a *******!

Heh, either he was a good BSer to get past the adcoms or he had a dental epiphany, LOL.. 😀

As far as braces go, they do work wonders.

I just got mine off last year, but before that, I was a mess. I had teeth growing over other teeth, crowding, and had to get two teeth pulled to make room.

It took two years, but it was definitely worth it. My teeth are perfect and couldn't be more happy about them (my girlfriend is too).

Good luck with whatever yo decide to do.
