Hi there.

I'm right now looking for housing for PCOM.

I do not have a car so the location needs to be within walking distance to the school AND local supermarkets

Also, since I am just a poor undergraduate living in a dorm right now - I might need a room that is already semi-furnished (w/ bed, desk, chairs, stove, fridge)

The place doesn't have to be fancy like a hotel - it could just be barebones w/ some furnitures (and a stove).

Any suggestions and prices?

Thanks in advance to those who will reply and offer suggestions. This thread will be helpful to those attending PCOM for the class fo 2007.

I know there are tons of places to live up on City Line (where PCOM is). One of my friends lives in an apartment building called the Iriquois and it is really nice and in walking distance of everything, but it is pretty expensive and not furnished. I don't think it will be easy to find a place furnished... however, if you need furniture you can always but it off of people for cheap (for example, I'm moving out of Philly next summer and I'll need to get rid of some stuff).

Most of the places within walking distance of the school are pretty expensive unless you have a bunch of roommates and want to share a bedroom to split rent costs. My friend lives in a 2 bedroom apartment (3 girls total, one room shared) and they each pay $350 a month, which is pretty good actually, but personally I'm not up for sharing a room with someone. If you're not from Philly and you don't know people you could live with, I know a couple people who will be going there next year who also need roommates.

Good luck with finding a place! Can't PCOM give you any information about apartments in the area?

Whats pretty expensive?
I just got accepted and probably am going to start looking for a place as well.

hey,
i'm looking for housing too for pcom!! (75% sure i'll go)
when i went for interview day, my dad came with me and while we were on the tour, somehow my dad got a copy of the listing of housing. (he may have gotten it from the office of student affairs) but most of the places listed are expensive ($700-$1100)!!!!!! but then there are some that are $500-$700.
I'm looking into possibly Duffield House ($640-$1212 includes gas and electric) or Greenbriar Club Apt. ($650-$1200 includes gas and electric). Both of these places are about a 10 min walk to campus, not too bad. Hope this helps🙂
Maybe I'll see you all in August😀

I went to undergrad at St. Joes, right down the street from PCOM, and there are a million places to live around there. All the apartment buildings on city ave (iroquois, lincoln green, iroquois, etc. ) are pretty expensive. i lived with 2 other guys in lincoln green last year and we paid 1350 a month. my girlfriend lives in iroquois right now and her rent is about the same, at both places utilities arent included. at presidential utilities are included, and its a little more expensive, but not much. Theres an apartment building called the Fairway which is right off overbrook avenue that i think is cheaper, i had a lot of friends who lived there. your best bet if you know people in the area is getting into a house in manayunk, most of the time rent will be about 300-350 a month per person, which isnt bad at all compared to the apartments in the area. If you have any questions about certain places pm me, chances are i know someone who lived there that i can find stuff out from

Contact PCOM Student Affairs, they have a listing of all the apartments around PCOM, also they have student comments from those who lived in those buildings which can be a huge assest to you because as a student here a PCOM I heave heard horror stories about rats and roaches in some nearby apartments!! Also it is a good because if you go too far "behind" PCOM you can get into a "shady" neighborhood. The student comments also includes estimates of their avg. monthly utility bills which is helpful if you are on a budget, which most of us are on!
