Places you would want to consider:
10 min. walking distance: Christchurch, Lower Camden St. or South George's stree, Harcourt St. or somewhere near Grafton St., Temple Bar (expensive), Pearse St. (right next to Trinity), Harold's Cross
20-30 min. walking distance: Rathmines, Lower Baggot st., somewhere near Merrion Square, IFSC, Smithfield Village, places near O'Connel St.
I'd sort of advise not getting any place north of the liffey (odd number), but those areas aren't too bad. Try to stay south (even numbers). For instance, places around Trinity would be Dublin 1, D2, D8, D7, D6 - try to stay with the even numbers. If you find places on the internet and want us to give you more info on the area, just drop an email or post.
The places nearer to Trinity are going to be more expensive, as these are in the city center. And it also depends on things like if you're willing to share a room, if you're willing to share a flat or if you want your own flat (anywhere from 800-1200 euro a month), location, etc. Since you're going to be an SF, it doesn't really matter exactly the location, because you're not going to really look for places near the hospital or whatever.
