This is partially to share my great news with everybody on the forum (since I got lots of help from you all by lurking all summer) and to let everyone know who's applying next year about this awesome scholarship.

It's the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation scholarship, which pays full tuition plus fees plus a stipid for living expenses. This year was the first year and it was only available to those who had any connection to the Maryland, Virginia, DC area (I qualified by going to undergrad at JHU), but they are hoping to expand nationwide and international maybe as early as next year. It's available to anyone going into any graduate program, and covers all four years. This year they awarded fifty and all I have to do is stay in good standing and attend some weekend retreat at the end of July. Not bad, huh?

can u give out some more info about it? is there a website i can check this out at?

Congrats!!! My best friend at Harvard got it too, and she's extremely happy, as you can imagine. She said that she really enjoyed writing the essays for that scholarship.

Congratulations again!

sorry for the repeat, but i think there are two threads going on at the same time...

just wanted to know if this is a purely merit-based scholarship (based on GPA, honors, etc.)...

thanks, and congrats again!!!

yes, somehow my computer did something weird and I got two posts of the same message, and I have no idea how to fix it.

So to recap the other thread, it is purely merit-based (the actual amount of the stipend is supposedly based on demonstrated need, but we haven't gotten explicit information on that yet). I am thus far going to Vanderbilt, but would love to get off the wait-list at Wash U.

Stats:
GPA: 3.99 (JHU)
MCAT: 33S

so basically you got the same full ride that the MD/PhDs get huh?

good job, thats quite an accomplishment.

Any good sites out there with information on scholarships. PLEASE POST--i could use a little

The mirror of this thread lists the website as:
jackkentcookefoundation.org

Two deadlines were listed for submission of materials, Feb 1, 2002 and APRIL 1, 2002. So it looks pretty improbable for getting a scholarship for next year. Would have been nice to see this site earlier in the application process...

Ah Feb 1 is for grad school, Apr 1 for ugrad. -J
