I just got my Step I scores and was wondering if some of you could help me interpret them a little. I am a US citizen and attend a top rated Caribbean school. I have a GPA of above 3.7 and am very active in a number of campus groups including leadership positions in many of them. I also am a member of our Honor Scoiety. I just got my Step I scores and got a 214/87. I was wondering how this affects my ability to get various residencies such as EM and IM followed by a Cardiology Fellowship. I know a lot is left to be determined with my clinicals, but how do I rate so far?

Thanks for your time and input.

Your score is not bad, that is what I got for step 1, I would say try to get above 90 on step 2. However, usually people either do the same or lower on step 2 (I stayed the same, I have friends who went down). For EM and for Cardio fellowship usually I hear above 220/90. You are close. Just try to get some really good letters of recommendation from people in these fields, so do some electives early on in your 4th year. You are doing all of the right things, but the unfortunate nature of being an FMG is that some programs won't even look at us because we are foreign, yet some university programs will, so try to find out where those from your school have gone for residency and target those programs in addition to your desired programs. Good luck.
