how bad/good is the job market, really?

i've been hearing all kinds of stuff about the path job market....can SOMEONE clarify what the reality of the outlook is!
for general path/surgical path/sub-specialties..etc.....i mean i really want to do path but i would also like to get a good offer after residency with good pay...
