how bad is it if you get an LOR from a TA, and then have the professor sign it?

Is it basically the same as if the professor didn't even sign off/approve of it, or do many people actually do this? I go to a huge public school, and I need LOR's now, and am not a science major, so I have only done the pre-req's. Do you think its that bad to do this?

The professors usually give the LORs a quick run through before signing them (since by the time they become professors, they're usually aware that one should never sign something without reading it at least once first), so I think it's allowed. I believe it's best if you have a professor actually write it, but if the prof gives his/her approval, then I don't see why you couldn't use it. This seems to happen a lot when students seek LORs from large classes, where the prof might not even recognize you as being one of his/her students. 🙂

no, I don't think it's bad, but if you're at all concerned, just ask your TA to make it clear that it's the TA writing the content of the letter. Having a professor sign it just lends some authority to what the TA is writing.
