Sorry to ask such a dumb question ... but my little sister is starting college and is considering the dental route at some point. I kinda assumed dental admissions were a lot like med school admissions. True? For instance, how many applicants (nationally) compete for how many spots? I know there are fewer dental schools than medical schools.

Dental school admission is comparative with medical school admission. There are about 4,200 spots and usually in a normal year about 8,000-10,000 people apply so about ~50% acceptance rate. GPA wise the higher gpa the better. A 3.4-3.6 gpa will put you in the ball park. However since your sis is starting school admission may be even more competitive. But remember dental schools love to look at other activities as well. Like: volunteering, manual dexterity, motivation to go into dental school. Hope this helps.
