VERY competitive.

Iowa usually invites 60 or so to interview. About 1/3 have 250+ board scores and the rest are awesome students. It will come down to the interview. This is the MOST important step after your application selection. Like I said, I will do a FREE interview coaching session for those who purchase a $100 item in the SDN bookstore.

Good luck,
Andy D.

The more I read about Iowa (especially from Dr. Doan's old posts), the more excited I get about this program. In light of Iowa's consistently high rankings, does the following advice, even though just 8 months old, still apply?

If so, how big is the gap between applicants interviewed and applicants matched?
Just be prepared for the smell of maneur as you exit the plane in cedar rapids.

The program is good, but living there, with that smell everywhere...terrible.

The smell is not there in Iowa City most of the time! 😉

It's a nice town. I miss it.

Speaking of maneur, I am in a Big City now and it has problems too... smog, pollution, crime, and homeless people.

I work in a marble building and am surrounded by tons of wealth (other people of course)... as I walk out of the building to go to lunch, I see a homeless guy who was taking a dump on the marble steps. Ironic eh?

Point is each program has problems. You must go where you fit. If Iowa is not your cup of tea, then there are many others who will fill your spot. Good luck!

I am currently a student at Iowa applying to this year's match. I assure you all that Iowa City does not smell like feces (or I may have just grown immune to it). However, Cedar Rapids really does stink. Iowa City is a terrific town. It has the best economy of any small city in America, it is full of highly educated, open minded people, and it's the home of Big Ten Iowa Hawkeye football. Also, the staff and residents here are very normal and down to earth. It is definitely worth checking out. If any of you are interviewing here, feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

Iowa City doesn't smell, but go about 10 minutes outside of town in any direction and it does smell like manure (I don't know what "maneur" is, but it sounds French, so it probably smells funny too). Iowa's all about the hog farms, so it goes with the territory.

Cedar Rapids technically smells like oats (from the Quaker oats factory), but the smell is often confused with butt. 👍

Setting the record straight,

HamOn

Does anyone know what time the Iowa interview day typically ends?

Thanks!

Hi Andy,
Does your interview coaching session apply to Iowa solely, or is it more general?

It's more general to help you prepare for your interviews.

I'm really busy now, so I may or may not be able to do it depending on our schedules.

Good luck!
