So this seems like a decent place to ask this- how did you know you wanted to be a doctor? Was it something you thought about, or just a natural progression in your life? Please, no personal statements, this is just a question from someone who is not particularly sure what made her want to be a doctor at the moment wanting some other peoples' perspectives. Thanks!

The same way that other people find out they want to be teachers, engineers, lawyers, accountants, etc. There was no definitive "epiphany" or extraordinary circumstance. It's just another profession...one day I thought to myself "Mmm, I could do that. I am mildly interested in the subject and I don't cringe at the thought of it. I think I could be good at it." I got to see more things once I got some clinical experience, but either way, my motivation hasn't changed too much from the beginning.

    That's it.

Spend more time with patients - volunteering and shadowing. That is where you should discover your desire to be a doctor. If you want to be a doctor and you cannot explain why, then you've fallen in love with your perception of what a doctor is, which is different from reality.

I'm Indian. My choices were Engineer, Computer Science, Medicine or Pharmacy. :D

To be serious though, I like the foundations of the profession - what it stands for and sets out to do. Also, volunteering, shadowing, and speaking to physicians confirmed that this is an exciting and interesting profession which I will enjoy doing for the rest of my life.

I was sort of on the fence after watching the first few seasons of E.R. Only once I saw how stylishly dressed Foreman and Chase on House were did I decide to go for it.

I have loved physiology since I was a little kid. If I can use it in my job, then I'd be set for life.

I've always wanted to stab people.

Unfortunately, society tends to frown upon that.

    When you're a surgeon, however... ;)

I'm racist so I have to wear white.

I was stuck between being a physician or becoming the Michelin Tires Mascot
