Hey, how does everyone here keep there sanity in these hectic months before the MCAT? I find my 19 credit hours, MCAT studying, and work is going to send me to my grave early!! 🙂
And as for sleep, what sleep? I'm starting to use toothpicks to hold open my eyes!! In fact, I bought the stock on caffeine pills and and working to stablish a glucose IV in my right arm.
Today I began hallucinating, this can't be good. Instead of taking my physiology book to class I took Dr. Suess's, "The Cat and the Hat." However for once I was reading something that seems relevant and I could understand, how nice.
Anyway, gotta go find some more coffee and starting burning the midnight oil, I'm interested in how others are keeping their sanity, which is something I'm losing now.

Keep studying!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Your kidding, right? The last time I got a clean bill of mental health was... well... before I started college.

This semester seems to be a little different. Yes, I'm taking too many classes. Yes, there are too many people who need too many things from me. Yes, the spector of the MCAT looms. But I have begun to spend one night all to myself, having fun. Out to the dance club, out to the movies, or just drinking a bottle of wine with the husband. I have to say, it hasn't effected my grades at all, but I am in a much better mood.

Knock it off with the caffine - believe me, after a while it just rots the gut and leaves you with twitchy, hallucinating eyes. (My favorite one is the little pink bunny with black spots mimicking my physiology proff.)

The caffeine pills were a joke!! Just looking to put some humor in a stressful time!! 🙂

Where was it that I left my sense of humor? Oh ya, in Physics lab today! I wonder if there's a lost and found, hehehe.

Forgive me and my lack of funny bone (quick, what's that attached to?)

Most somberly yours.

Nanon

What's commonly referred to as the "funny bone" isn't really a bone. Rather it's a nerve (ulnar?) that travels rather superficially over the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. When struck it produces a tingling sensation that represents the superficial distribution of the ulnar nerve (the 4th and 5th digits, and maybe, the medial half of the 3rd).

Losing my sense of humor during GI block,

...No TV and no beer make Homer something something...
...Go crazy?...
...Don't mind if I do!...

Yeah turtle board-
When we say we hit our funny bone we actually struck the ulnar never hard enough along the axons of the neurons to physically open sodium channels and produce action potentials. The action potentials travel distally toward the hand and also to the brain. Because the cell bodies and dendrites of the neurons of the ulnar nerve are in the hand, the brain thinks these action potentials originated from the hand. Therefore, although we strike our elbow, geez, your hand just kills, but don't forget its all an illusion, caused by the cerebral cortex!!

Boy, where's my coffee??

When I was about 5, I hit my funny bone hard on the sharp end of my grandma's table. Of course, I started to cry. That is, until my perverse Oma looked at me and said, "Why are you crying? You hit your funny bone!" Which cracked me up. And to this day, hitting my funny bone still makes me giggle, even though it hurts like hell. The mind is a powerful thing.

But coffee is better.

Just wait til you actually start the application process....

Yeah, and then med school and then residency. You'll look back and think about how easy you had it.

when I was in France hunting purple elephants I hit my funny bone on a blue footed bobbie that had migrated from the Galapegose islands in an attempt to take over the world! I started laughing histaricaly but then the little voice in my head started screaming "you just killed the blue footed bobbie!" so I fell into a deep depression

but then I realized... I just saved the world from boobie domination

and everything was great! Wait.... its the voices in my head again... they are telling me to get off SDN and get back to studying! and give them some more espresso while im at it. UGH I hate it when they are demanding.

Mossjoh, I noticed you are from Grand Rapids where do you go to school?

I'm a junior at Aquinas College in GR

You think you're trying to stay sane studying for the MCAT? What 'till you have to wait for your scores and more importantly, wait for application responses. At least you can do something about studying. I've been living by my mailbox the past half year...
