How do you thank your recommendation writers?

I've had 2 female faculty members write me letters.
I sent them a thank you card along with an inexpensive leather bound photo album I bought from Target as a gift.

I am having a male prof write my 3rd recommendation.
I'm starting to wonder how I should thank him.... and if my previous methods are a little over the top.


How do you guys thank your writers? I'm thinking about keeping it simple and cheap this time. But I do want to show my gratitude.

I just send a hand-written note to each person; I also do a lot of physician shadowing, and I don't want to send a gift to each person.
