Since the interviewers at vandy are not on the admissions committee, how big of a role does the interview play? and does anyone know the stats on # of applications/# of interviews/acceptances?

thanks

Hi Veggie! I just interviewed there yesterday, and from what I was told, our interviewers will make their recommendations which will then be attached to the overall application (AMCAS, Secondary, etc) for the full admissions panel to review. Because interviewees are invited based upon an initial AMCAS screen, the interview is an *important* way for the committee to see the individual behind the paper. I'm not sure about the number of people they are interviewing this year, but two years ago it was roughly 900 interviews per 105 open spots.

I had a wonderful time in Nashville--the faculty member doctor who interviewed me was an amazing individual with many interests and the most friendly interviewer I have met throughout this entire application process. Also, Dr. Helderman, Dawn, and Vicky are extremely helpful and welcoming to all. My impression is that the students there LOVE being at Vandy, and everyone is very happy. 🙂

The fellow interviewees who I met yesterday were also a great group of people and I hope they get in as well. (if you guys and gals are out there, come say hello!)

Overall, I walked away yesterday with a huge smile and I'm sure you will as well. 😉 When are you interviewing?

Good luck!

I think a lot of the people that interview are on the committee. Vanderbilt's approach is to view the application "holistically" so that all aspects are considered. This includes the interview - just as important as any other aspect. I don't think it would help you to have a good interview, but if you're a weirdo, it will hurt your application. We are happy and nice, aren't we?! 😉 They are planning on interviewing 1000 this year, roughly 240 acceptances will be given out in addition to ~30 from the waitlist in the summer.

has anyone been rejected post-interview or is everyone put on the waitlist? i was put on the waitlist and curious if they rank it or if they throw everyone on there?

Hey crimson!

I actually interviewed in early december. i, too, loved vanderbilt. everyone was so warm and welcoming. and i thought it was one of my best interviews. i just didn't know how much it would matter in the end since my interviewer wasn't on the admissions committee. i would love to go to school there though.

Same experience for me. I went to the interview not knowing whether I would want to go there or not, but I left delighted and hoping to get in. The students were really awesome and took so much time to answer all our questions, show us around, etc. I interviewed on 12/13 and I hope I get some good news at the end of the month.

Hey Patzan, thanks for the info on the decision process. I certainly hope I didn’t come across as a weirdo! hahaha =) And yes, you guys are very happy over there, something that can’t be measured in numbers or on paper.

Veggie, Haybryant, and Canuck—I guess we all had similar experiences at Vandy: a great one. You really do feel a great sense of community there. 😍

Oh yeah, and Canuck--I believe they notify students about 2 months after you interview. Using that measure, you’ll hear back from them around Valentine’s day. Hmmmm! 😉

Good luck, everyone! 👍
