How important were facilities/technology in your decision in choosing your school? Is it over/under-rated in your opinion?

they seemed real important when i toured the new UMD building... paper-less records, wifi, digital radiography, etc... but then when i realized UMD would cost $100,000 more than my state school, i decided to save that money to invest in new technology for my own practice 👍

on one hand it is good to learn on the state-of-the-art technology while you're a student... on the other hand, there is something to be said about learning things the old-fashioned way. and yet on the third, and most important hand, $100,000 is a lot of money

Pretty important, some of the schools I interviewed at included Penn, UMDNJ, and Nova. Penn had some neat things, cool sim lab and very nice building, UMDNJ was a little less striking, but you also felt like you wouldn't break anything or mess anything up, and Nova was really nice...everything new and fresh...awesome facilities. Facilities though weren't a part of my decision, curriculum and clinical aspects were thought of more.

Once you've seen digital patient managment you will NEVER be able to look at a chart again. Plus i've always loved technology so I think I will enjoy the UMD facilities a lot (and hell, if you're there 8-5 everyday, that's pretty important). But yeah, cost is an issue and that money is way better spent for your practice. Of course, my state school was expensive too so that eliminated cost as a factor.

gotta be honest with you coolraz, i'm a little jealous haha
