Meaning top 5-10. Do these residents tend to get jobs wherever they like or do they feel the squeeze like everyone else, perhaps just to a lesser extent?

You feel the squeeze like everyone else. You have a theoretically better chance for competitive jobs given you have a larger alumni network, more ability to secure competitive fellowships as an internal candidate, and more street cred because of famous attendings. It’s all relative.

I’ve also seen just as many people from no name residencies get great jobs while people from fancy places are trapped in clinical instructor hell.

it’s more about right place/right time/right fellowship and your willingness to relocate. Also being AP/CP boarded for community practice.

Better be making friends regardless of where you train. This is how you get decent jobs in pathology. If you get one thing out of this forum, network network network.
