how late is too late to cancel interview

Technically one could do it at any time. But is there some sort of courtesy time like 1 day or 1 week?

Cancel as early as you know you won't be going. A last minute cancellation is probably annoying, but not as annoying as going through all the trouble of interviewing and evaluating you, only to have you not be interested in the school.
