How late is too late to pick a student loan lender?

I have been putting off the task of picking a lender, and I wonder how long I can keep this up. To the current students, how late is too late to pick a lender?

I won't receive accurate tuition figures until late July or August, and wanted to wait until after then. But I feel like that may be a bad idea.

you can pick a lender now and fine tune the amount of the loan later on once school starts
