How long do you get to prepare for NBDE I

I'm sure this has been discussed before. Whether or not there was a specific thread made I'm not sure and I'm just too lazy to look...but I wanted to see how long schools give to study for boards. I just came to find out that here we get absolutely no time off to study for boards...according to a friend of mine in the 3rd year. Ouch
