4 yrs. 2 yrs academic, 2yrs clinical. Each state is diff about residencies I think...in nys, a general dentist is not req'd to do a residency program, but that is fading fast. If you specialize, you have to do residency...different ones vary, oral/maxillofacial surgery being the longest (I think).
