I am bored at work and I desperately need alternate list movement.

Sorry about the slip-up on the poll... I can't edit the post.

If you still have 3+ at this point... that's just kind of being an @ss. Other people are pulling their hair out becuase they don't even have one. I dropped most of my acceptances months ago when I realized that I had to make a decision.

I've trimmed it down to 1, but not the right one yet (fingers crossed for UVM...).

Some people hold on to multiple acceptances while waiting for finaid decisions.

Regardless their motive, not dropping before the May 15 deadline causes very little waitlist movement anyway.

very few schools even move the waitlist before may 15th no matter how many people drop, so calm down. If people earned those spots then they'll withdraw when they like, and should take as much time as they want to be sure in their decision. They have to drop all but one by thursday, doing it last friday or tomorrow won't make a difference. The waitlist will move the same amount either way so get off people's backs.

Are you in the midst of year-end standardized testing too, pandulce? If so, I can understand the boredom. :)

As for the poll question, just one.

I ain't saying you got to be tied down to a school already, but it's pretty inconcievable that you still can't narrow your list down to 3 schools by now. (hence the 3+ comment) Oh sure I can hear all the people listing exceptions now, but realistically, most people can have a good idea what they want enough that breaking down to the final 3 shoulld not be a huge problem IMHO.

And it's not like I'm on anyone's back telling everyone to drop their acceptances now, I just think it's an *** thing to do. Schools don't make wiatlist movement before may 15 becuase they accept too many and a huge number of people with multiple acceptances puts off their decision till the last minte. If A school only had 100 people on the enrollment list and it's got a class size of 150 by the end of interview season (say late march early april) I'll bet big bux that there will be waitlist movement.

    I only have 1.

If you consider the number of factors that might play into a decision, then it's conceivable to hold 4 or 5 if you're still waiting on financial aid. Think about these factors: urban vs. rural; PBL vs. lecture; big school vs. small; warm weather year round vs. seasons; state vs. private; warm students vs. cold students vs. not trusting your one interview day was representative... if you're lucky enough to get a bunch of different types of school, then it can be a difficult choice.

Blaming the woes of people holding out hope on waitlists on those who are holding multiple acceptances until May 15 is silly and misguided and shows a total lack of understanding for how the system works. If you are angry, blame the system itself, not the people who are following the rules.

    Yeah.

Unfortunately, that misguided mindset is common and fuels the gunner mentality, which is founded on the belief that med school admissions is a zero-sum game.
