how many can u miss to get a 30?

How do you expect anyone to know that when the damn grades are based on a bell curve that is derived from each testing cycle?

why did someone start a thread (sorry don't know which one it is) that the curves are based on past performances on similar tests??? NO one thought it was right but it was still posted.

another question:

how much does it hurt you to leave 4 out on PS and 3 out on VR for not finishing?...i mean i bubbled something in but never even read the questions. This is really bothering me.

wow, really?? that's the best thing i heard since i took the test; that's reassuring but he probably got everyone right that he did answer and i'm sure that was not the case for me...

he didn't actually leave them blank but guessed on them...right?

Yeah friend of mine in APril 2004, left 8 out in the PS and ended up getting an 11, but did bubble them in after time was called, so who knows what ones he got right.

Normally I would have said look at your AAMC scoring conversion charts.... but now I dunno what to say. Those AAMC practice tests were not adequate representations of this test so we'll see.

i agree...all that practice did not prepare me for this test

oh god thats so comforting
but then again he prolly got the other 65 right huh 🙁

your not alone. I rushed the last 11 on PS and hope i got 25% right. I had been getting 12 on practice exams, but now am a little scared. Find out in a couple months.

relax everyone, you cannot know the answer to this one, because of the experimental passages with variable numbers of questions (which count for NOTHING!)

just know that you can miss a bunch of questions and still get a 10 or more. There are plenty of posters on here who have done that in past years.

i dont haveto relax it is my full and valid option to fret till i pass out of anxiety and fatigue
god i love this freedom and this nation 🙂

by leaving 4 out and 3 out, do you mean 4 questions and 3 questions? Or do you mean 4 entire sections and 3 entire sections?

Missing 3 questions will hurt you on verbal, it will probably pull you down a point... assuming you missed them all which might not be the case. Missing 4 questions on PS might pull you down a point if you were borderline.

If you missed entire sections then you are in huge trouble.

if i missed that many entire sections, i would no longer be posting on sdn. By now someone would have found me in my bed overdosed on the pills i should have taken before the MCAT began....

You shouldn't stress out then, 3 or 4 questions won't make or break anything, I'm really surprised you did so well with all the leaving of the room and what not.

oh no, never!!!! i'm sure you didn't leave out that many whole sections either....but your comments still sounded funny. 😍 And on second thought the whole way i did the exam and rushed thru it and never checked over a thing and probably misbubbled half of it, i will reconsider my misjudgement of the minutes immediately following the exam

but you don't understand how fast i raced thru the test, never checked over a single thing; never went back to anything i was unsure of. I had a nightmare last night that i misbubbled my entire PS section 😱

Everyone has that nightmare, or at least worries about it.

It's going to be a loooooooooong 60 days if you don't start calming down, psycho.

I doubt you misbubbled anything, you usually find out if you do, it's just one of those things that will stand out to you all of a sudden during the test.

well that makes me feel better 😳

after a week or two, i can put the thoughts out of my mind and keep myself so busy that the time will go by really quickly...i'm actually quite experienced and skilled at that.

hopefully not, and probably not..but you still get this sense of insecurity for not checking over your answers. i don't think i was too cognisant of anything i did that day...and that's what has me so worried. 🙁

i took the mact for the second time this weekend. The first time i got a 9PS,10VR,10BS = 29Q. i thought i hadn't done better than like 20 overall! I blindly guessed on THIRTEEN QUESTIONS on physical sciences. I blindly guessed on EIGHT QUESTIONS in biological sciences. I blindly guessed on SIX QUESTIONS in verbal reasoning. And I was not even that confident about the ones that I DID answer! I had never taken a timed practice test.

This time I was more prepared. Hopefully my scores will reflect this? :luck: But do not worry about guessing on a few questions here and there. It will work out. You probably did better than you think right now.

Thank you, I really needed to hear this...

...especially considering I guessed 15 in PS, 10 in VR, and 5 in BS. 😱

I wouldn't worry, the curves are pretty generous. I blindly guessed on 2 whole passages, and did a third passage in 5 minutes. After the test, out of the ones I did answer, I found out I got 5 wrong. I was sure I made a 9 or below. This was on the April administration and I pulled off a 10 👍.

you figure avg. 5 question/passage. on your april exam, you guessed randomly on two passages, and did another in ~5 minutes. conservatively, lets say, you got 4/15 right on the three passages. that leaves 11+5=16 wrong=score of 10 on that section. doesn't sound like a generous curve to me.

How did you figure out that you got exactly 5 wrong?

Sorry I didn't mean I got exactly 5 wrong. I meant I got 5 wrong for sure out of the ones I did answer.

So assuming I got 11/15 wrong in the three passages I rushed and the 5 problems that I worked on and still got wrong, that adds up to 16 wrong. That leaves 61 questions that I really wasn't too sure of, and who knows how much I missed out of those.

I misbubbled half my BS test, I was seriously freaking out and it felt like I was dreaming while I corrected it. Still finished in time, doubt I'll get a 10 like I expected because of the rush.....

i caught myself missbubbling on some questions, then thought, "holy ****, what if i did this on other questions and didn't notice?" I was about to void the exam.... cried during the break, then pullled myself together.

Kaplan claims that you can get 20 wrong on PS and still get an 11. last summer i left out a verbal passage and got a 9, not great, but not too terrible for leaving out a whole passage.

side note: this forum is dangerously addictive.
