I have a 3.9+ GPA, from top 20 school, and 512 MCAT score. I will have 10 EC by the time I apply to med school

-3 of my ECs are from being a hospital volunteer. (ie. doing standard volunteer work like offering water to patients, talking to them). Total=400 hours.

-3 of my ECs are from being a research assistant in 3 different fields (psych, bio, and chem); I have no major publications. As a research assistant, I mainly helped out with basic lab techniques. I have dedicated 100 hours to each one of these EC. They typically lasted for 1 semester. Total=300 hours.

-Hopsice volunteering. Total=100 hours.

-Scribe. Total=300 hours.

-Shadowing. Total=120 hours.

-Started a obesity club at my university. Total=300 hours.

Based on my ECs + stats, do I have an okay chance of getting into med school? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 🙂

do you have any shadowing? Also is there a reason that you worked in 3 separate labs for one semester each instead of any longer commitments?

@boogiecousins94 Thanks for your input! I did research during the summer in my hometown (which is in a different state than my college). I did obesity research during the school year, but I didn't have enough time commitment to stick with that lab. So the following year, I decided join a different one.

Do I have an okay chance at med school? Or should I do more ECs/anything else? Thanks everyone! 🙂

I agree with above. Shadowing seems to be the only thing you could add. Good scores and lots of hard work, your app looks solid!

You might consider getting something in the Teaching category, since you have time before applying.

If you haven't done the shadowing yet, about 50 hours is sufficient. Be sure to include a primary care doc.

Thanks for all your input! I have 150 hours of shadowing by the time I apply. Any other opinions? I appreciate it! 🙂
