How many med schools is it good to apply to?

Is there a golden rule of how many med schools one should list on the primary?

I heard that med schools know what other schools you applied to, so does too many indicate that you don't care where you want to go and adcoms view this negatively? On the otherhand, applying to a few schools is risky.

According to the AMCAS instruction for 2005, they don't send a list of schools that you are applying to each school. So, don't worry about the number of schools you are applying to.
