How many Reach/Realistic/Safety schools are you applying to?

Right now I have about 10 "reach", 11 relatively "realistic", and 5 "safety"

Is this about average? I feel like I have a lot of reach schools, but I figure the more reach schools I apply to, the better the chance that one will actually accept me.

Then again, who actually knows! I've heard there's no such thing as a "safety" school in the med school application process.

Yes, there is no such thing as a "saftey", "safetey" or even the more commonly believed in "safety" school.

ha, i'm trying to answer this same question. was hoping to rock the mcat, but it didn't quite happen. now i'm trying to decide if i should kick my reaches out. or, rather, if my "realistic" are now my reaches, if that makes sense.

my adviser told me to keep most of them, as schools look at your numbers to get you in the door, and then may be impressed by your experiences/accomplishments.

you, on the other hand, have a really solid app. depending on the breadth of what you've done and how you interview, i think you have a solid shot at your "reaches." but really, who am i to say?

I am applying to 16 schools.

My favorite is obviously the once that accepts me!

i need advice on the # of schools i should apply to. 28S (10vr, 9,9) 3.91overall, 3.85science, decent ECs (check mdapps if you want), solid LORs, no research. how many do you think i should apply to. i have about 15 or so on my list right now. could some of you suggest some cuz i am having trouble picking schools at which i stand a chance. just throw anything out there guys. thanks 🙂

i see you have tufts...if you're really interested in coming to boston, i'd throw BU on there too. if not, might take tufts off. (it kind of struck me as out of place with the rest of your schools...)

I am also conidering what you have said. Right now I am not applying to BU or Tufts b/c they seem like schools that get TONS of apps, and i was rejected by BU the first time i applied (2 yrs ago). However, if I had to pick a city to live in, I think I would have to go w/ Boston, and that really makes me consider throwing these 2 schools back in!

yeah, i have taken tufts off (haven't updated mdapps, oops). thanks though for the suggestion. both tufts and BU are on a list of schools that may apply to seeing how things start off. if i apply to one i applying to both. thanks for the advice. anyone else with suggestions??

Yeah, I think you're right...they do get tons of apps. I'm guessing BU is going to be getting more and more since they got a boost in the US News rankings with the gov't funding for their new bio research lab. But that's going to be a problem with a lot of the private schools that have somewhat average stats. For me, I'm trying to apply to places I know I'd want to live. So if you like Boston, throw them on there...you never know what's going to happen...
