How many stereoisomers for meso compound?

Please let me know. How do you calculate the stereoisomers for meso compound?

If there is 4 chiral centers and mirror image(symmetry line)on the compound, is the # of stereoisomer 4^2 - 1 or 4^2/2 ?

Usually minus 1 but I'm sure there can be exceptions where possibly minus 2 if multiple lines of symmetry

uhmm the formula is actually 2^n, where n is number of chiral carbons

also it's minus 1
