god the R8 is so ugly... she looks uncomfortable even sitting at a standstill on the pavement. The original lines are decent I suppose but the grill, different coloring of the metal ruins, and some of the styling ruins it for me. Kinda like a girl who has an ok face but wears too much make up. Or a girl that has a really nice face and has a botox injection that didn't go too well.

NOW HERE are some nice looking cars...

Porsche Targa 4S

But yeah...I think the Targa is doable on a specialist's salary with minimal debt and good financial planning. Tbh, the ferarri probably is too.

Whoever wants that Ferrari better live in a cheap house.

Haha the different coloring is actually something I like about the R8. I like the Ferrari but I've never been a big fan of Porsches..something about their front end always looks bug eyed to me. Kind of like how I don't like the newer Camero cause the car looks like its frickin smiling at me.

The Porsche is actually the most affordable one though (besides the Shelby which is basically a pure racing car without much of an interior). The Targa is probably doable by almost any doctor if they're willing to pick up a used one and wait a few years.

I know a doc in our neighborhood that makes ~1.2 million a year (Sports Medicine and Ortho). ~800k house, brand new Maserati Quattropuerte, brand new F-150 Platinum, brand new Escalade, and he's looking at buying a plane.

Definitely in the top 95% salary range for physicians.

Also, R8 hands down. :)

Those two definitely don't belong in the same sentence. I never understood trucks tbh. I suppose if you own or are in a business where you NEED to haul ****, thats fine, but people that buy trucks because they're "badass" or "manly" irk me. They have horrible mph, and are a waste if you aren't using the space in the back. Hummers are even worse.

Not a big fan of trucks either, but unfortunately, everyone in Nebraska seems to have one. State requirement I think :).

I dont know who you are but you literally picked my two favorite cars in the world     i .love.you!!!!

you can easily snag one for like 150k
I don't think even a specialist would be wise to spend half a year's income on a toy. I met a young girl whose father is a neurosurgeon. He once owned a Porsche, but then he had to sell it.

I believe any car with a six figure price should be reserved for people with seven figure incomes or more. Otherwise it is a waste of money since cars are rapidly depreciating assets.

So this Sports Medicine doc must work with the Huskers out in Lincoln huh?
That would explain the $1.2 mil a year.

Either way tell him thanks for keeping Suh healthy for us, homeboy is a BEAST.

do your job right, and a kid will visit you while you're on your death bed... a porsche cannot. (and if this doesn't strike you as true, visit an ED for a day.... very sad).

This is why I choose the Porsche Cayman R ;) cheap enough to have a kid too!

Don't expensive suits with bespoking run about 5k-8k...... each? :scared:

All I know is that I won't be able to wear skinny jeans cause my knots won't fit.

For the car talk, people always start drooling over Porsches and nobody gets it right. If you're willing to drop $70K (but not more), Porsche doesn't make enough car at that price point. Ball up and fork over the extra cash for a GT2 if you want to be seen in a Porsche. Don't like the $245K sticker price for a 2011? Get one that's a couple years old.

Cayman R....meh. They say it's more fun to drive than a straight up 911. IMO, if you're driving anything with less trim than the 80K Carrera S you shouldn't waste money on a Porsche. Cayman R doesn't even come with A/C or a stereo as standard options.

You want 80K worth of performance? Get a 500 horsepower Nissan GTR or go with the even less-expensive Shelby GT 500 previously pictured. You want 80K worth of comfort and German engineering? Go with a BMW M3 or ante up to the M5.

Just remember, gentlemen, while you think you look cool driving around in a flashy car, ~98% of non-gold digging women will quickly assume that you're attempting to compensate for a lack of horsepower in other areas.

Cost of raising a child from newborn to 18: $222,360.

Cost of a new Porsche: $120k-$440k.

Porsche wins.

Unless you plan to carry that same Porsche for 18 years, cost of raising a child will win. That said, why are you people obsessed with cars. Can't tell if srs.

So invest. Who relies on their salary anyway :p

I like your style sir. The M3 is probably the more realistic car I'd get. I'm cool with the ladies thinking whatever they want. After driving crappy cars up through residency I think I'll feel like getting a nice one a few years out. I don't know if I'll every buy a new car though...you can get almost anything certified pre-owned now to make sure you aren't buying some piece of crap the previous owner didn't take care of at all.

There are very few people that can honestly say they don't really want a nice car.

And I believe CodeBlu said, with inflation it's going to cost about $500k-$1mil which I find believable depending on where you live plus the cost of college in the future.

I'm a buyer, not a leaser, so I'd have a car for probably 8-10 years if I kept it in well enough condition.

2 $150k cars < 2 $500k children.

I actually can't wait to have kids, but I might allow myself at least one big splurge before committing the rest of my financial life to them :D

Of course we all would love to have a Porsche or a Lamborghini, but the simple reality is that the vast majority of doctors will not be able to afford such cars, and the only ones who can would be highly-paid specialists who otherwise live frugally. Doctors need to settle for a BMW or Mercedes.

Some of these cars are in the 50-100K range, which any doctor can afford if they save up for it. Hell, most can afford it in one year if they don't have kids and their debt is paid off.

You should change your name from Dubaifan to DOOMANDGLOOM.

Seriously do you walk around with a rain cloud over your head all the time?

Which is just fine. A black Mercedes S550 is classy and then a black M class for my wife.

"Settle" for BMW and mercedes. I've never heard anyone say that before .

If our government follows the advice of "The Conservative Nanny State", don't expect a 6-figure income as a doctor.

With out of control health care costs, these ideas might gain traction.

Do you actually sit there and scour the internet for ways to be such a downer all the time?

I feel bad for the people who know you in real life.

It's very simple DOCTORS WILL ALWAYS BE NEEDED! Many think that the trend of jobs for doctors relates to how good, or bad, the economy is doing. Do people get sick when there's money everywhere and everyone's happy? Yes. Do people still get sick when we are in a time like this? Yes, probably even more so. The shortage of doctors will always be there and will cause medical schools to start accepting a higher percentage of applicants throughout the next years.

In addition, many people just "wing it" when it comes to the salary. Being from a nice part of the country, I can tell you first-hand that to live here you're either a doctor, business owner, celebrity, or inherited. Other than inheriting money, I would say that being a doctor is one of the most secure and less stress free jobs. Making 200k+ will get you a nice lifestyle just about anywhere.

Edit: Damn, beat me to it.

But what happens if regulations are loosened to the point that some foreign doctors can practice medicine in the US without a US residency? How can US doctors make six-figure incomes if we have to compete with Indian doctors on an equal footing? (which is not how it is today, since US med students currently are at a huge advantage when it comes to residencies).

To expect this not to happen in the next 40 years or so is naive.

haha well I'm a chick so the california is right up my alley. besides I really want a convertible hardtop, and this is the best of both worlds..and about the targa? not really into it. I'll just go for the plain carrera 4s anyday. I don't like the look of the turbo or the GT3/GT2s.

Wow...I want to respond to this rationally. But you are an idiot, so I won't. And wtf is conservativenannystate?

You need to seriously calm down. There are obviously enough doctors out there living in million dollar homes with nice cars for it NOT to be an issue. Besides, if you don't know the cost of buying a porsche, then don't even tell me one should settle for a BMW or Mercedes..

I will now begin referring to you as "DubaiDowner".

I don't know about the rest of these folks but I'm definitely obsessed with cars :D some people splurge on their kids, some people splurge on themselves, but out of all the things that I, for sure, 100% going to do once I get a nice big fat paycheck after my debt is paid off is to get my dream cars. I don't care if it isn't financially smart or secure, but I only live once, and the happiness I'd incur will be worth it

I guess you also think Milton Friedman is an idiot.......he wanted medical licensing to be abolished.

Doctors of this generation aren't going to be as wealthy as doctors who went to medical school 25+ years ago. They were able to balance bill Medicare payments, refer patients to their own medical centers (no Stark law back then), take vacations paid for by pharmaceutical companies, and paid only a fraction of the cost of current medical education, not to mention lower malpractice costs and fewer barriers to establishing a practice.

Never heard of him, but yep, that idea makes him sound like an idiot...how'd that one work out anyway? Look, just because 2 economists think that medical licenses are worthless doesn't mean that they are gonna be gone in 40 years. How bout we have we have doctors start predicting future market trends? Stop being brainwashed by your professors.

If you start talking about horsepower I'll be forced to propose marriage. We'll live happily ever after watching Top Gear and racing each other in expensive cars.

Never heard of him, but how'd that one work out?

Also, thanks for the google link. Just because a website exists doesn't make it anything relevant. It's one persons opinion. How bout I find you a blog that says doctors should make more money?
You've never heard of Milton Friedman? Seriously???
