I realize that my volunteer experience is no way near competitive; however, is the volunteer experience too lacking? How many hours for clinical and non-clinical would be competitive? I personally do not see the point in racking up volunteer hours; the point of volunteering clinically is to get a view for what the medical work environment is like (this is also supplemented by shadowing). I realize it is good to be a helpful person and volunteer a lot, but with other priorities, I am afraid I cannot devote massive hours to volunteer. However, I would like to know if having 100-100 clinical hours in one/two hospitals is lacking/weak on the application.
