i shouldve done this, how old are you unikoRn

A little baby...I'm only 21....but I was really impressed with all the stories on the other thread about older applicants so I thought this poll would be interesting. And yes, I am very entertained by these polls...they are a good study break from midterms.

Yes I am curious myself as to how old everyone is.
This poll should have been onymous!

i have been meaning to make the MOTHER of all polls: "which is your dream/first choice school?" for fall 2006 applicants. but there are too many schools and alas i am too lazy to do it. unicorn06, if you are really in need of a study break....

🙂

Just curious, but for all those still in UGrad, why the rush to apply to med school as soon as you finish? Don't you feel burntout?

After two years out, I finally feel mentally prepared to hit the books again.

Nope, no burn out here. I am excited to go straight through. I've really enjoyed undergrad and am looking forward to med school. I also want to finish school ASAP so that I can begin establishing my career before starting my family...but that's years down the line, so I can't really predict the details.

I don't want to take time off because I can't think of anything to do instead that would be as fun and fulfilling as med school will be. This is what I really want to do, so the sooner the better!

I definitely had to take a year off. I don't know how you guys go straight through...

Really, really old. Like tree old.

speaking as someone who took time off, i'd have to agree with those going straight through. the only time i felt burned out was working in the real world after college. going back to school was actually the best thing i could do and got rid of the burnout feeling...and now starting med school next fall, i can't wait to get started.

Who is going into med school at 19 or younger? That's really young...wow. Lots of college freshmen are only 19!

I'm graduating a semester early, so I'll have no school Jan-Aug. That should be enough of a break, especially since I've been itching to get back after class-less summers.

My conclusion exactly, I worked full time while going to school full time. Just going to school even w/ 20 units is a piece of cake. Looking forward to med school 😀
Oh, and moving far, far, very far away from in-laws is an added bonus 😀

hmm...next time i'm asked "why do you want to be a doctor" i'm simply going to say "i've heard there are people applying to medical school at 17, and, well, i want to be a doctor so no one i know has to be treated by these kids..."

:meanie:

How is it possible to apply to med school at 17? When did you do undergrad?

ok, first of all, im not one of them.
and second, its not hard to imagine that since sdn attracts the most gifted people, there are a few geniuses/weirdos here :meanie: 😉

There are programs that you can apply to straight out of highschool (they are listed in the MSAR). You do 6 or 8 years straight through instead of 4 yrs undergrad, then 4 yrs medical school. Many countries have this model too actually.

Okay, I do hope these 17 yr olds are doing the joint BS/MD, but if they are, I'm surprised that they're on SDN because all of our threads are tailored to the MD admissions, and I assume these other programs have a slightly different process. I haven't seen any threads where applicants mentioned applying to the BS/MD programs, but I guess I haven't read the majority of the threads either, so that's not saying much!

Paul White at Hopkins said they had an eleven year old apply for MD/PHD a few years ago.
