HOW SHOULD I DRESS
Maybe someone can give me some advice.
I have a meeting with the Dean of Admissions of a med school I hope to attend next year to go over my application, and to get some feedback on the quality of my application for his program. It is ot an interview, just an appointment. How Should I Dress? NIce but casual? Suit? Slacks and a tie?
Please advice! 😕

When in doubt, dress professional. It may not be an interview, but you should treat it like one as it is your chance to make a good first impression. I'd strongly suggest preparing for this opportunity the same way you would for an interview. Make a good lasting impression and it may help you down the road if you're on the bubble for admissions.

Ala "Klinger-stlye" from MASH you mean?

It is not a question of how you shall dress, but of what dress shall you wear. I recommend the pink, lacey one.

liesure suit. Golf attire...something that will make you stand out 👍

I'd say shirt and tie.

So Jillian,
You mean a suit, as if I was indeed going in for an interview, Thanks for the professional input. I do appreciate the other posters humor, crack-me up.

honestly though, dress up nice - shirt and tie and say you just got back from some meeting or something formal...it won't make you look too stuffy but at the same time you don't look like a slob

jillianrae is right......you only get one chance to make a first impression. i would wear your fatigues, complete with face paint. and definatley bring your rifle. ask lots of questions about post-traumatic stress syndrome while using your knife to peel an apple.

I meet with the director of admissions to do the samething. I dressed in a white collared shirt with pinstripped pants black belt and shoes. I don't think you have to wear a suit maybe a tie if you want to .

Don't make any excuses for your dress. I'm guessing this advice is coming from someone who hasn't worked much beyond the undergrad years. A shirt and tie with a pair of dress pants--not khakis--is the way to go (e.g. charcoal, black, or to a lesser degree, navy). You'll look professional but not to the point that you're projecting a sense of power or seriousness.

Make it a formal tie, meaning leave the one with the cute little baby birds hatching from their eggs at home. Simple, tasteful design. Nothing too bright, nothing too complicated. If you still feel too rigid, it's okay to unbutton the first button of your shirt and let your tie slide down a bit.

i think a suit is overboard since it is not a formal interview. dress nice and professional, but not to the point of a suit. think business casual (which is very different from actual casual). nice slacks and a nice collared shirt. good luck.

Do you guys read Dilbert comic strips for your clothing ideas. A tie without a jacket looks ******ed...Either wear a pair of dress pants and a dress shirt sans tie or go with a suit and tie or a suit minus a tie (makes it a little more casual)

If you wear a shirt and tie at least wear a short sleeve shirt so no one will confuse the fact that you are intentionally trying to look g@y

I like suit with no tie...i have one of those semi turtle neck things that would work well

Speak for yourself, hombre.

This is a professional meeting, probably a first encounter. Professional protocal take precedence to what "looks cool." What you would wear to a coctail party is not what you would wear to a professional meeting.

Again, conservative is the way to go.

This works, as well. If you have a plain navy suit, you can wear a white collared shirt and leave it unbuttoned. Might want to avoid this with a black suit or one with pinstripes.

Man, this question is so relevent to me because I am doing the same thing on Friday. I think a tie is just too much, personally. I mean, you're just asking questions and getting the director's opinion. If you come neat (slacks, nice tucked in shirt, non-athletic shoes), that should be enough in my opinion. Anything else just says desperation and inadequacy; it's going overboard. Save the suit for the interview when they're expecting it. I know that at some schools, you'd be surprised how friendly and laid back these admissions people are. I think they look for the same kind of people: relaxed, confident, and sensible. 👍

I agree with the tie thing, too. A tie is meant to be worn with a suit. If you wear it with a shirt alone, it's like you lost the coat or got hot or something. Shirt needs to have a tie and coat or nothing at all.

I find this disturbingly interesting by the way. 😀

Thanks for the infomation. i have to mull it over and decide. I don't think I want to wear a complete suit, but maybe some variation as suggested by more than a few of you.

depends on how badly you want to get in.

"maybe something low-cut, with a hint of nipple."

Of course I speak for myself, who else would I be speaking for 😀

Oh, I forgot, if you go with the advice of tie and shirt, sans jacket...make sure you get a skinny tie, or one with piano keys or one that hangs way down to your crotch or one that is about 6 inches above your belt. You can mix and match several of the above for a real winning combination 😛

Always wear at least a dress shirt, dress tie, dress slacks, nice belt, and polished shoes. Do not wear a bracelet (yah?.yah?whatever?.I?ve seen it), nose piercing, or ear piercings (if you are a guy) or a necklace (guy again). Do wear a nice watch (borrow your dads if you have to).

You may think this is not important but you were in the military so you know how important your clothing is. Would you wear fatigues when you should wear your dress blues?
