I have two publications that are published, which I listed.

I have three manuscripts that are currently being submitted to journals, but I haven't found out if they've been accepted yet. Should I list these and label them as "in the process of being submitted" or something like this? I also have two other manuscripts that are in preparation, which I could list as "in preparation." Would doing this be helpful for my application at all? I'm worried I won't be as competitive as other candidates with a longer publication record. Thanks for your time!

For published or accepted manuscripts, they can be listed as publications.

If they're just being submitted now, I would include them in your research as part of the research activity and just write at the bottom that you have two manuscripts that are submitted. If you haven't submitted them, I would not include them.

If you subsequently end up with an accepted manuscript, you can update schools by e-mail, particularly those where you have interviewed and not been accepted yet.
