my friend has some of his kaplan step 1 usmle books, now how similar is this to the test dental students have to take? would it be wise to review some of the material?

USMLE 1 is vastly harder than NBDE 1. I think studying material for USMLE 1 would be total overkill. If I were you I'd stick with the dental decks and do every old exam you can get your hands on.

USMLE Step I First Aide was an awesome resource for NBDE I. It has a ton of great mnemonics and summaries that were not in the decks and showed up on my exam. It's pretty easy to sift through it and ignore the topics that most likely won't be on the dental boards...

wow, i didnt even know that book existed. I would definately check it out if i was a d-student still. I liked first aid for step 1 and used it as my only resourse for passing step 2. I don't however recommend first aid for step 1 to be used for dental boards part 1. It would be a very big waste of time and at my d-school they only gave us 1 or 2 weeks off to study for part 1 so time was valuable, so use something higher yield. Try this new one for dental boards though. I bet its got some usefull info in it.
