I just interviewed at EVMS this past week, and have some new information to provide to the admissions committee.

How long should I wait before sending an update letter/letter of interest?

Also, would email or snail mail be preferred?

Thanks!

If you just interviewed, you either (1) should sit on the new info for a month or two or (2) you can mention it in a thank you note. Sending a LOI the same week is too soon.

Why is this? I actually sent a LOinterest/update letter (not LOintent by any means) the Monday after I got back from an interview at a school I'm very interested in, on the grounds that since it's a rolling admissions school, I'd like for them to have all of my info for as long as possible while they're in the process of deciding on my application. I'm also planning on sending more updates as the process goes along, as there will always be more things happening to me that I'll want to update them on. So why not send it right away if you're really interested in the school? I can see why you wouldn't sent a LOintent until you're on the waitlist, but I fail to see why you should wait on a LOinterest.

EVMS tends to meet and review your file within a month or so of your interview, so don't sit on the info too long, or you might already be on a waitlist. And once you have a spot on that ranked waitlist, good luck getting your place moved up.

I met with a doc who used to be on the adcom for a medical school. He said he liked seeing thank you letters after the interview, and its okay to do it even like two days afterwards.

He said letter though, not e-mail.

I sent an update letter (+ TY cards) the following Monday post-interview the previous week. Then a couple days after that, sent a LOInterest. In my case, I knew the Adcoms were meeting VERY soon after my interview date to make their decisions. When I called the office to ask when I should send the LOInterest (I had wanted to wait a while after sending the update), they told me to e-mail or fax it (i.e. get it in ASAP) rather than snail mailing it. I knew I needed to act fast.

If you have new information why did you not provide it at the interview? I'm finding it hard to believe that you got beneficial news, grades, etc within a week of interviewing. Its possible, but unlikely, imo. That said, you probably should do it sooner than later according to beachblonde's advice.

Ok, I will move on this soon then. Regarding the thank you letters, I know a lot has been written on this site about it, and the general consensus seems to be that i has no affect on admission, but is a nice courtesy regardless.

Regardless, I plan on sending letters Monday... hopefully it helps

Actually my interviewer told me to send the update letter. He wrote some notes about my updated activities but said I should add the info to my file too 'cuz he might not remember everything I told him. It made sense to me too 'cuz the guy does a lot of interviews.
