How strict are med schools with their prereq's?

I graduated with an EE degree from a UC school and eventually took many of my prereqs from a local Community College. I never took the first quarter of Gchem because my college accepted my AP class. I scored a 14 on the PS section. Would I still have to waste the $700 to take that Gchem class? I'd rather take an upper division Bio class where I would actually learn something. Thanks!

If your college took the AP credit, it should be noted on your transcript, so you won't have to take Gen Chem again.

Does anyone know how med schools look at "alternative" classes? The AP bio class I took in high school did almost exactly the same labs as the two-semester intro bio lab sequence here at college, but that's not noted on my transcript (they give you credit for the bio lectures but not the lab). I took the anatomy labs instead (also in the bio department); I assumed most med schools would consider that equivalent. Thoughts?

You should probably contact the schools that you will be applying to, and ask them about their policy. Some of them will not give full credit for AP classes, even though your college accepted it. I also took engg chemistry after getting AP credits for high school chemistry classes, but it didn't have a lab. Some med schools also need a semester of biochem.

I dunno what to do because everyone's situation is totally different. The prererqs that I took at the CC were all transferable to UC Irvine according to www.assist.org. I basically took a full year of Ochem w/ labs, Physio, Biochem w/ lab, Genetics, and intro to bio w/ lab and got all A's in them. It's just going to suck if I have to take another class for this school and a different one for some other school.
