HOW THE HELL CAN YOU HAVE AN UNRANKED WAITLIST

IF THE WAITLIST IS UNRANKED HOW THE HELL DO THEY CHOOSE PEOPLE OFF THE LIST.

I BELIVE THAT UNRAKED WAITLIST IF BULLS***
:p :p :p :p
I THINK THEY JUST DON'T WANT YOU TO ASK THEM YOUR POSITION IN THE LIST

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE AN UNRANKED WAITLIST THERE HAS TO BE A SYSTEM TO CHOOSE PEOPLE.

Your thought?

Thanks

It's funny. I was asked this question in my first interview and that was very similar to what I answered. I said that "curiosity" is my strenght but can also be my weakness b/c it keeps me from focusing on one single subject  I think that is a very reasonable line of logic!!!!

I meant this for another post! How did that happen?????

An unranked waitlist means one of two things and neither are worth shouting about. The first is that you are ranked and they don't feel like sharing your position with you, like you mentioned. The second is that you truly are unranked at the moment, meaning that the school will review all waitlisted applicants at a later time.

you can have an unranked wait list becuase thankfully med school admissions is a qualitative process. If they only looked at numbers they wouldn't get a very unique class. It is hard to rank ECs. The same way when teachers grade papers with letter grades instead of numbers---you just can't rank everything. :p

I've been told that schools (although it varies) fill their classes with a particular variety of "niches". When the class is full, they have 100 (or 200 or 250) types of people they want. As people give up their spots, the schools scan the waitlist for someone to fill the niche that has opened up. That's how unranked waitlists were described to me by an admissions officer.

Barton what you said makes sense nothing else does to me

barton, yup, i know ucla for one does that...

imo, quite unfair... sounds like a quota to me... but oh well, that is the game we play

I'll second the "barton hypothesis"
unlike matt, I think it IS a good thing to seek the diversity in a class.

U Chicago's class compsition looks like it follows the notion: <a href="http://pritzker.bsd.uchicago.edu/pritzkerStudents/index3.html?content=students.html" target="_blank">http://pritzker.bsd.uchicago.edu/pritzkerStudents/index3.html?content=students.html</a> click on Table2

hey, now you're twisting my words :D
