For my strongest diversity essay I'm using a life experience not related to socioeconomic/cultural/ethnic diversity, but one of the school specifically asks for that aspect of diversity. I'm thinking one way to approach this would be to talk about something I learned from my culture, then apply it to a real life situation to talk about what I bring to the class, but I'm not sure if this is what the prompt is asking for. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Without sharing the prompt, verbatim, we cannot be sure what the prompt is asking for either! 🙂

Sorry, the specific question is:

Describe what you bring to the practice of medicine - your values, skills, talents, and life experiences - and how you add to the cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity of the medical profession.

This sounds like you are not answering the question.

Sounds OK

Like Goro said, without disclosing what you learned, it's hard to say

Lacking specifics makes it really challenging to figure out what you could say. If what you learned from your culture defines your values, then you need to figure out how these unique elements contribute to your impact as a learner or a practitioner.

This is not an atypical prompt. We all bring something, cultural, ethnic or socioeconomic to the mix, regardless of the color of our skin or our SES.

Your response does not seem to answer the prompt, because you are offering a story while they are looking for an introspective view into what you bring to the profession.
