I am a senior in undergrad and I'm about to start d-school in the fall. I know this might sound like the age-old story of a d1 wanting to specialize, but I really would like some advice. No one, and I mean no one in my family is a dentist or a doctor for that matter, so your advice is important to me.

My question is that I want to specialize, but I am not sure how to get started. I know I have to do good in classes and on the boards, but is there anything else I can do to improve my chances?

Also, before I worry about trying to get in, I have to ask your opinions about a specialization. What does it entail? WHat are good specialities? Are you a specialist, and what is your opinion of your lifestyle?

I really appreciate your response.:D

You'll have plenty of speakers on this sort of thing during your first year of dental school. Not much you can do now except plan on doing well and maybe try to get involved with leadership right off the bat.
