How to mention SMP in AMCAS application?

Well I was planning on applying to med schools right on june 5, but since I am still expecting some schools to get back to me (SMP programs), I am hesitant about sending my application in before I can list which SMP program I will be attending for sure. I really don't want to wait any longer to send in my app (in fact, I kinda feel bad I didn't send it in already). Should I just mention that I will be attending one of these SMP programs in the fall on my app. essay or should I wait till I am sure which school I will be attending.

im in the same position as u man..but i sent out amcas..i dont know which program im going to..i spoke to an advisor and what i did was under INSTITUTIONS ATTENDED i wrote something along the lines of GRADUATE PROGRAM I HAVE NOT YET CHOSEN or something like that..u just gotta let them know ure gonna be in a program somehow..u can even send in ure amcas and send them a supplmenetary letter by snail mail or email telling each school ure gonna be in a grad program...the only thing i wanan know is..would doing well in a postbacc help in getting into the fall of 2008? but ne way, just state on ure amcas indirectly that ure in some post bacc and choose TRANSCRIPT NOT REQUIRED..or else theyll be waiting for a transcript that u didnt even receive for an "imaginary" school...hope that helps..also, are u trying to do a postbacc for the upcoming 2007-2008 year, while sending in ure amcas now so that after ure done with postbacc, u can attend med school in the fall of 2008 (techinically losing only ONE year)?? cuz thast what im trying to do.

Thanks for the info man. Appreciate it very much. To answer your question, yes I will be applying to med schools while I am in the SMP program.

don't stress too much. the applications aren't even being submitted till the 21st. I know which SMP i'm going into, and i put down transcript required. Unfortunately that put a hold on my app until the transcript is in, which i have yet to register classes for. I called up and they made an exception for my app to go through without the transcript of my future classes/school.

My advice: Submit it now, indicate your future SMP like the other poster said, and then supplement your application in the future, or at the interview 🙂

I'm applying right now and I am starting the Georgetown SMP this Fall... I have yet to submit my AMCAS though, probably in the next day or two 🙂

I started my app for dental school, but I won't hit submit until later. If you read the SMP FAQ, there's a little snippet in there advising SMP'ers to submit apps before starting the SMP. This frees up time, so you're not working on apps while trying to juggle tough classes.Not sure when academic update is for AMCAS, but you'll also want to keep schools updated of your progress.

I'm wondering when is the best time to "submit"? I was thinking late July/early August before classes, but the advisor at our SMP said it's best to wait until quarter grades are out (early November) once you know you've done well. But that sounds way too late. Thoughts?

You can go ahead and submit in July/August, def don't wait till November. In November or December, AADSAS lets you do a 'Course Update" and thats where you can put in the grades you got in your SMP classes.

Thanks. I wasn't sure during what time "Academic Update" is available.

does anyone know how to describe future SMP plans in the Texas application if you haven't decide which program you're going to yet- it won't let me do unknown, US or the 000000 Fice code?
