Hello class of 2019 here. I want to apply to ACGME IM programs in Cali.
My questions are : 1)how much time do I need to keep open for interview season? and 2) am I applying to enough programs to avoid the soap?

1) I currently have Sub-Is scheduled till the end of December with 2 weeks open on the last 2 weeks of November. I plan on taking a 'vacation' on January so I can concentrate on interviews. Is this enough time for the interview season if I get a generous estimate of 14 interviews? Are most interviews on Fridays or scattered throughout the day of the week? If I limit an outside interview to 1 per SubI and try to make up for the missed time, would it still get frowned upon?

The reason I have SubIs so deep into the season is b/c that's the only time I could get SubIs in the geographically competitive areas I really want to go to. I usually get raving reviews from my preceptors so I'm hoping subIs would help me get my foot in the door.

2) WAMC?
Specs: Nontraditional DO student at a school in NW. Wanting an IM residency in Cali.
Class rank: Above average. Top quartile on systems but I barely passed OPP so it brings down my rank tremendously.
Clinical grade: unknown yet. Above average but unlikely to honor.
Step1: 236
Comlex level1: 596
Plan on taking step2/level2 in June.
Research: Has a number of research experiences but has been unable to publish so far. :(

The list of programs I plan on applying to:

UCSF primary only

Any advice would be appreciated!
