How to prepare myself and setup myself up for pharmacy residency

Hello. I am trying to find information on gaining a residency. Any help and info would be greatly appreciated.

I am starting pharmacy in the fall and want to create a good well rounded application. What is needed? What is look more positively upon? Obviously, I will need great grades, but what other things do they look for?

Residency is a job correct? Will have a background as pharmacy tech then as a pharmacist intern for the next 4 years help? I was hoping to land a once a month pharmacy internship. Maybe twice a month.
