What's best protocol for switching pharmacy within district at wag? I am currently overnight and would like to do days again (7 on 7 off is nice but it feels like it's taking a heavy toll on me sleep pattern wise).

Do I let rxm know first then scheduler or email dm perhaps?

I dont think my rxm would take it well... do I email my scheduler first? Could the rxm say I cant go? Will my salary drop to the new grad rate if I switch? I'm fine going back to floating if I can get try days again. Not sure if I'd do it though if they dropped my hourly rate to new grad rate.

I'd rather not rock the boat but not sure how much longer can take the chronic sleep deprivation of overnight shift.

That’s exactly why I have no interest in overnights. Some people swear by that shift. I knew an overnight hospital pharmacist who verified for 3 hospitals, he swore by that shift and wouldn’t do anything else. It’s not for everyone though and I get that.

Yeah I definitely see why people do it (set schedule, mini vacation every other week), but for me I'm finding I feel more and more like crap all the time, especially worse on switching from night to day and back every week.

Yup, exactly. He said he knew his whole schedule a year in advance, which is unheard of nowadays. It has its advantages but as my dad put it to me when I considered taking an overnight job with a premium “what’s the rest of your life worth to you?”

Unfortunately I can’t answer your original question tho 🙁

Are you single? I would stay on night schedule on my off week if that were the case... that would help your sleep cycle.

The detrimental health effects of working overnights are well known by now. I don't think people get enough extra compensation for the risks and the effects on their family/social lives.

Don't most staff and rxm know their schedule for the whole year?

I have mine already written down for next year.

Contact your DM. Tell them that you realize that you aren’t made for working nights. But, you love the work/company/district and want to stay on board. Ask if it’s possible to transfer to a regular (daytime) position when one opens up.
