Hi all,

I am pre-writing my secondaries now that my primary app is in, and I'm wondering how to address a few of the essays that ask for me to talk about my future goals as a physician. The issue is I don't really know what I want to do with an MD at the moment besides working with patients. I am so intrigued by almost everything I've experienced, whether it be private practice, clinical research, healthcare policy work, public/global health, academic medicine, etc..., and I was hoping that medical school would be the place where I could discover where my exact career goals lie.

How do you suggest I go about answering these questions about my career goals, when I don't really know what they are? Is it bad that I don't know yet?

Tbh, make something up that aligns with what your application/ECs say. You're allowed to change your mind, no one will know or really care at this point. You only have to convince yourself in order to demonstrate passion or interest.

Let me help you;

Regardless of what specialty you want, you DO have future career goals.

You want to be a leader in your community, you want to help your future patients / make an impact (regardless of specialty, this has got to be one of your goals), you can even add something about how “I find an interest in research and would like to further the knowledge of medicine through research opportunities.”

Dont make the essay harder than it has to be and don’t think so narrow. Admissions just want to see that you have a goal other than “I waNnA bE a DOctEr”

I agree with you, and the admissions office has a goal to see your healthy enthusiasm. But without unnecessary water in the text. I remembered how I made a big mistake in writing them twelve sheets of my personal experience. They were frustrated that they would have to waste their time on me. But then it seemed important to me to convey to them all my aspirations.

What kind of "water"? I think you mean academic honesty.

Yes, I'm talking about it, if I'm not honest, they immediately feel it.
My son is now going to medical school. And for him, this essay was written by order of Revise My Essay to Be Sure 100% on the European service. And he thinks that let them do this bureaucratic work for him. And I agree with him because he has preparation for introductory examinations and proofreading of his articles. He wants to make a career.

You could just generally group it and say you want to work in your community as a physician whether thats in public or global health or working as a clinical researcher with the population. Just group it together and say you aren't sure of exactly what until you see it as a medical student

Try talking about location when answering where you see yourself questions. Obviously tailor it per school so if you're applying to a city school, talk about how you can do x y z that you're interested in with that community as a practicing physician

Ad coms understand that your mind will change and that you do not have sufficient information right now to make an informed choice. That's okay. Tell them about what excites you most at the moment.
