Hi peeps, just curious what people will be doing this summer, our *last* actual summer of freedom with no responsibilities of studying for the USMLE or doing some research work or going on a medical mission trip outside the country. think about it, you don't have to do anything to impress the med school adcoms because...you're already in!!!!!!!!!!!! you can go crazy, just don't end up in jail 😛

Traveling to the middle east....the whole summer

I'll be in the middle east too. Which countries you headed too?

Travel travel travel and lots of time just relaxing doing nothing.

working and volunteering...

and lots of cubs games. 😀

Let's see, after I quit my job May 26th, I'll be heading back to the Caribbean islands.

I took a whole year off and partied like crazy (not really....just watched a lot of TV and reconnected with friends I'd lost touch with since I was a crazy busy pre-med). Now I want to do something. I'd like to volunteer (within the country). You guys heard of Alternative Spring Break...where you volunteer and get to go to cool places and see cool things and meet interesting people...well, is there something like that for the summer???

Well my parents live on 2.5 acres in suburban boston with an inground pool and hot-tub, so i plan on sitting by the pool and having a margarita or twelve on the nice days and going to the gym/playing some ice hockey on the not so nice days. I'll also be spending some time on a trip out to visit my college friends in San Diego/Salt Lake City and my brother in Santa Barbara. A nice relaxing summer that I havent had in a long time 👍 . But I cant really think about that right now as my Thesis is due in 17 days 👎 Back to work....

Jim

Working so I can buy my own car... my parents want theirs back so my little sister can use it.

I'm quitting work on the 17th of Jun, heading out to San Diego for a couple weeks, then traveling through six central american countries during the entire month of July. I get back on the 29th and Tulane orientation in on the 4th of August (as of two months ago--has anyone heard otherwise?). I will be cutting it close being as I don't plan on moving down to NO until after I get back.

I think I'll be working as a camp counselor and vacationing/visiting my family in New England.

Hmmmm, planes lands in Amman/Jordan (i've got some family there). I'll probably be there for 2 weeks before going to Saudi Arabia for ~2 weeks as well. Then probably back to Jordan, then Syria and Lebanon for a week each, then 2 weeks in Palestine/Israel. Then back to Jordan for the ride home.

If i had more time, i'd definitely like to spend a couple of days in Frankfurt for the change of flight (but that isn't going to happen)...as well as Dubai. But oh well, i'm still excited.

Where you off to?

how much is this trip gonna cost you? Jwing i kinda wanted to do that 2.

I'm hitting up South America - Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru- to do some sweet hiking, sweeter penguin seeing, and sweetest drinking with beautiful South American babes.

10 days in Tanzania climbing Kilimanjaro, 7 weeks in Singapore for my first trip home in 3 years and a chance to finally introduce my American bf to the culinary heaven that I'm constantly raving about. 🙂

Going to Europe for 5 weeks. Flying into London and backpacking my way to Greece.

wow people, where do you get the money to do all this?!
i'll be sitting on my butt at home, eating (and cooking).
If I'm lucky, i also may go to pakistan (hopefully, hopefully) to visit my grandmother, who's in the hospital right now (please pray for her!)

Wow, look at all these fun plans!! Well I'm going on a cruise for a week right after graduation with my friends and then I'm gonna wait around to figure out where I'm going to med school. I was supposed to go to Lebanon (BaylorGuy, if you haven't been there before, you're going to LOVE LOVE LOVE it!) but I don't really want to go anywhere before I know where I'm moving...so until then, I'll be enjoying the San Diego beaches during the day, and salsa dancing my nights away...(it rhymes!) 😀

Working and worrying about getting off waitlists

I'll be at the pool, or the lake, or the beach, all summer 😍

I'll be working whitewater trips, working in the clinic, and cycling in Tahoe City. Might go ski in South America, depending on when the big storm comes in down there and how much money me and my friend have. 😀

spending a week in the Virgin Islands and getting married there. Coming home, quitting my job, having a party for everyone who couldn't make it to the island and enjoying doing nothing the rest of the summer. Let's hope I don't become a stepford wife out of boredom 😀 ...

Damn we're definitely going to be in the same place at one time or another. I'll be landing in tel aviv, and staying in ramallah for a few weeks then off to amman and then some dubai and a lil bit of beirut before going back to amman and then back to ramallah. Where are you from exactly? You can PM me if you want.

Israel, Amsterdam, London, France, Italy, and Greece... 30 days total... I cant wait!

Not sure about that...most of the cost is going to be the plane ticket over there. I've still got family in those areas, so it isn't necessarily going to cost us too too much to live, and i've got some money saved up from work that i'm most likely going to burn over there.

I'm not sure how much it will cost in the end, but i'm assuming at least $3000 (ticket ~$1300...which blows)....i mean heck, after spending so much money on the whole application process i should be able to take a nice vacation for a fraction of what i paid.

Hawaii is about as exciting as it's gonna get for me (oh, and no complaints there...I hear it's beautiful!).
Anyone going to Germany for the world cup. That's where I wanna be....

I would LOVE to be in Germany for the World Cup. I've always wanted to go! I remember when I was a kid my friend got to go and I was so ridiculously jealous....OOOH I WANT TO!

I know. It's funny because I was actually thinking that this would be the best world cup to go to because after we all graduate from med school (class of 2010) we probably won't get to go that summer since its when residency starts. I guess it depends on your residency. Speaking of which, when does residency usually start? Summer after you graduate med school? or do you usually get some time off?? That's gonna determine what I do for residency. Whether I get that summer off or not (totally kidding, but a tempting idea...)

If my SO can afford the time, we are going on a scuba trip to either Fiji or Roatan. Blub blub blub!

I am pretty sure we get no summer, that residency starts right after graduation. I think thats why the summer between ms1 and ms2 is called the last summer of the rest of our lives 😳

Wow, you all have awesome trips planned! I am just staying at home, working to save up some money to live on duing MS1. Minimize that debt!

Hawaii for me too...Maui to be exact. Ive been waiting years for the moment to lay on the beach, coconut drink in hand, doing NOTHING! I heard its been raining for the past month though... 🙁 Lets hope it drys up very nicely soon! 😀

Selling house, packing, moving, backpacking, pleasure reading, hanging out in Hawaii for 2 weeks, chilling with family and friends...

Gotta work through June 20th so I don't have to give back my nice signing bonuses. Then I have a lab rotation all July before med school starts. That gives me about a week and a half of summer...so I better come up with something worthwhile!

Any ideas for a short/sweet vacation that'll fit in there?

Brazil for an all expense-paid choral tour for the first two weeks.

Then . . . living with my parents and doing nothing at all until I move to school.

lol...does this trip involve scuba-diving...or hymnals? 😕

I plan to spend my entire summer sticking it to the man!!!

working 40-50 hrs/week to get my manuscript revised and accepted and possibly another poster for next year, drinking heavily with the co-workers and boss, backpacking with gf in VT, visiting friends in DC and possibly Cali (SD and SF), cape cod (Nauset beach) as often as possible! There are also about 90 red sox games that i'll be watching/listening to/attending.
