I was selected to serve today as the Regional Coordinator for a nationwide, primarily student-led PPE donation and outreach effort. Many of my duties are logistical and administrative duties, but I am also involved in direct, hands-on volunteering by reaching out to places to request donations and picking up and dropping off PPE shipments to hospitals and clinics. Would it be better to classify this under leadership or volunteering?

For reference, my volunteering section is currently composed of: Volunteer Patient Navigator at a low-income psychological evaluation clinic, Crisis Worker at a suicide hotline, and Childcare and Respite Assistant at a women's shelter. My leadership section is currently composed of: Senator-Elect for Student Government Association for one year, nominated by Student Government Executives to serve as Student Government Secretary, and now have been voted in as one of the three executive positions for Student Government.

As the Regional Coordinator position has yet to begin, but you are already involved in the hands-on volunteering effort (from what you've written), I suggest that labeling it Community Service/Volunteer-Not Medical/Clinical would be most appropriate. You could mention in the narrative that you are the Regional Coordinator-Elect.

Thank you! Just to clarify--I am applying next cycle (so I will have had adequate experience with both aspects) if that changes anything.

After a year of experience, you'd have a choice of

1) keeping everything with this organization in one space (Community Service/Volunteer) and naming the space Volunteer and Regional Coordinator for [XXX Organization], or

2) splitting the leadership role and the volunteer hours into two separate spaces, each with their own dates and total hours, or

3) grouping the leadership with other leadership in one Leadership space plus grouping the volunteer component with other nonmedical volunteering.

What to pick depends on the spaces at your disposal and how much you need to say about each activity.

That was helpful; thanks!
