how would you compare UCSD to other elite schools?

UCSD undergrad????

Maybe top five in California!

UCs always think very highly of themselves, undergrad or otherwise. Sometimes it is deserved, other times not.

For real. OP, there's crazy competition at many different schools in different departments; that doesn't mean that the difficulty to get through a program at your school is any harder than at another school.

But no, UCSD is hardly top 5. Top 10? Top 50? I dunno.

ucsd bench research, as in competition of faculty and bringing in grants, in biological science is top 10. As for competition as an undergrad campus, i think we're perennially about #30.

i think it has to be top 5. the competition is ridiculous.
As a science major, I'm sure it's gotta be top 5 for surfing competitions. Maybe even top 3.

For undergrad, I think it may be top 5 in california, but not nationally. Of the top of my head, Stanford, Cal Tech, Berkeley are all ahead of SD in california in term of undergrad competion in my opinion.

stanford, cal tech, berkeley are supposedly "more competitive" simply b/c of the name themselves.

my friend goes to berkeley right now and he plays games almost everyday and yet he has a 3.6 GPA. and i hard 3.6 is like real good there.

for science majors, i may have exaggerated UCSD as top 5 but it should be high up there. i'm not talking about general undergrad, but just science.

Science at any school is an ass-kicker; I got shat on at my school. I still highly doubt that UCSD is "up there," whether we're playing the name game or not.

I think UCSD is about a taco short of the combination plate.
When was the last time you were able to lay out on the sand up there? Right. Shut your mouth.

lol, it could be that your friend is super smart. I know some people like that at cal (my roommate) who just naturally get A's while sleeping, but i was one of those that work my ass off for those B+ and A-

even the "naturally" smart at UCSD has to study their fair share. this dude i know who got into johns hopkins (and TAed many of my bio classes) studied a lot.

i think ppl just really go by names when they answer these types of questions by looking at the rankings and stuff.

UCSD has its fair share of those "sub-par" students b/c it is a state school after all as indicated by its low GPA. and that's why i think its science program (which is top notch) is considered weaker than other "elite" programs.
