Right now we are running low on PPE (personal protective equipment) in many hospitals around the country, mine included. Try reaching out to all your friends, family, Facebook, etc. and see if they have any N95 masks, gloves, gowns or other protective equipment and donate these to local hospitals. We are currently looking at running out in the next week and can use all the extra equipment we can get.

Thanks.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to reach out to the science departments at area universities. I'm sure they have huge amounts of gloves available, at least, especially now that there are not students there taking labs.

One of the research institutes in my neighborhood did a glove/PPE collection and donated tons of masks/gloves from its labs and animal facilities to the hospital across the street.

I hope other places can do the same

also saw this idea floating around.
Wonder if dental offices can donate as well..?

Costco or Sam's Club might be another source of gloves

Yes dental offices are aware of the issue and are being asked to cooperate by only seeing emergency cases and consolidating all PPE and sterilization resources to those who need them. You may also ask veterinary offices that do surgeries. Everyone's pretty much combing the desert.

It’s awful that the CDC and Administrators relaxed PPE guidelines due to shortages of PPE equipment putting many hospital and community based physicians at risk.

Some are getting creative, unfortunately replacing proper equipment with “better than nothing” approaches.

Even if you can get your hands on the N95 or P95 inserts, there is a way to saw fabric face masks with a pocket for these filters. I am talking here about just the filter inserts, like the ones on the pic.

Some hospitals are looking for sanitary/disinfectant supplies. Unfortunately, many people are hoarding for the purpose of selling for exorbitant prices, whether in stores or online. Some people are even employing bots and scripts to make automatic and instantaneous purchases online as soon as new supplies are released online (people who purchase limited edition shoes or high-profile concert tickets may be familiar with this). Not only is this practice unethical, it is also promoting hoarding, panic, and lack of these supplies for healthcare purposes.

However, fortunately, many retailers are limiting number of items per purchase, which limits the speed at which price gougers purchase these items. Therefore, if there are enough people trying to buy these items, it is possible to purchase them for the purpose of their own reasonable use or to donate to hospitals. I've been able to make a good amount of purchases of these items to donate to hospitals, all I do is check Amazon, Walmart, Target, and other retailers from time to time and find that they are in-stock at rare occasions (though I've seen a trend in when products are released). Though be ready to click fast or pre-login because they go away within minutes.

tl;dr - Check Amazon, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Staples, website from time to time. This past week I've been able to purchase a good amount of these supplies for my own reasonable use and to donate to hospitals. You just need to be ready (be already logged in or have your payment info already entered) and it is possible to make purchases. F the price gougers, I literally do not care if people use bots buy Yeezys or whatever butt ugly shoes and sell for 100x the price, but this actually matters so screw them.

Hello everyone,

The PPE shortages are a serious problem, and I'm hoping people can definitely try to help with that in any way that they can. Many medical students at different institutions are organizing efforts around that, so it might be worth trying to reach out to them to see where you can donate. If you're in the Bay Area, you can try donateppe.org to find more information.

I also wanted to reach out to encourage people to schedule an appointment to donate blood. There is expected to be a national shortage, and donations during this time are really important. Many people do not know that they can still schedule blood donations with shelter in place policies, so please try to spread the word.

I know many people prefer to keep social media private, but started a public awareness campaign on FB. If you're willing to join via your Facebook account and invite friends/family to donate, hoping we can really get the word out about this in our networks.
